Privacy policy

Template text for launch preparation. Have it reviewed by a lawyer and update the business details before going live.

This policy explains what personal data GuruNet collects and how we use it, in line with Sri Lanka's Personal Data Protection Act No. 9 of 2022.

What we collect

• Advertisers: mobile number (verified by SMS), the contact numbers, name, qualifications, photos and class details you publish, and payment records (order, amount, status).
• Bank transfer slips: the photo, screenshot or PDF of the payment slip you upload and the bank reference you enter. A slip usually shows your name, the account you paid from and the amount. We use it only to confirm your payment; it is kept private and only our team can see it.
• Visitors: no account is needed. We count ad views, phone reveals and WhatsApp clicks using a short-lived, hashed fingerprint of your IP address and browser to avoid double counting.
• Reports: the reason and note you submit.

How we use it

• To publish your ad. The phone and WhatsApp numbers you choose to show are public to anyone who taps "Show phone number".
• To send SMS verification codes, payment confirmations and expiry reminders for your ads.
• To show advertisers anonymous statistics about their ads.
• To prevent spam and fraud (rate limits, blocking abusive numbers).

Sharing

We share data only with service providers needed to run GuruNet: our hosting provider and our SMS provider. Bank transfers are processed by your bank and ours. We do not sell personal data.

Retention

Live ads stay public until they expire or you delete them. Expired and deleted ads, payment records and payment slips are kept for as long as required for accounting and dispute handling, then deleted. Verification codes are deleted after 24 hours.

Your rights

You can edit or delete your ads at any time from "My ads". To access or erase other data we hold about you, contact hello@gurunet.lk.

Cookies and storage

We use your browser's local storage to keep you signed in to "My ads" on this device and a cookie to remember your language. We do not use advertising trackers.
